The day that the Business Boutique opened, I met Apostle Iva at the front of Goodwill. I had just quit smoking and was doing just fine, just quietly waiting for her to arrive. I had butterflies in my stomach but that was nervous excitement (Seriously, not kidding- I’ve literally NO cravings for cigarettes, thank you LORD!) Anyway, she pulled up in front and got out of the car. I helped her carry stuff in and she said, “Wait till you see it!”. I walked into the room and my jaw hit the ground, ya’ll. If you look at the before and after pictures, it’s not hard to figure out why!
And these are the pictures of what the Boutique looked like BEFORE it’s reinvention!!
A couple weeks ago, I was asked to check out a website for the purpose of connecting with potential partners. I did so, and came across a food pantry called Compassion Food Pantry. They have multiple sites in multiple places so I called and spoke to a gentleman about their donating food to us here at .
The gentleman that I got into contact with, called me and referred me to his brother. I got into contact with him, along with my boss, and he graciously made time to both talk with us as well as donated to us so that we could feed others. I am so thankful for this group. They’ve worked 24/7 to help those affected by the heavy rains (floods) here in Colorado as well as the fires before the flooding. We deeply appreciate God providing for us this way and ask Him to bless Compassion Food Pantry and bless them a hundred fold!!
Twice a month, they hold these A.R.I.S.E. events where local businesses come to Goodwill Industries on Colorado Avenue here in Colorado Springs and make themselves available for those who need help. The most recent one was held two weeks ago on September 4th and it was so much fun! I actually filled in for Christine , who normally attends these functions, representing but, blessedly, she is back in the seat and I’m doing what I do best – let all of you know what’s going on! As usual, she has outdone herself and here are a few pictures of the beautiful table she put up.
Christine is our new Office Manager. She and I traded places in our positions, so now I can operate as the Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator of this nonprofit organization, as well as function as HER assistant which totally works for me and makes me very happy! She’s been here just about a month less than me but I’ve been watching her, as had been the people that I answer to. We all came to the same conclusion- Christine is made for management. She’s fair and just and able to say what needs to be said; do what needs to be done and although I can function in the role (and have since I arrived 6 months ago), it is not a role I enjoy, nor do I seek to continue in if another is more qualified than I am – and Christine is. No question about it 😀
One of the wonderful things that Goodwill Industries did to assist us (and I likely mentioned this before) was arrange for us to keep our clothes in one of their offices. They went a step further and moved us into a much bigger space. Christine, Antoinette, Teresa, Chelsea, Stacy, Cindy and James and myself spent all day at Goodwill Industries the day before the A.R.I.S.E. event getting the room ready. We worked very hard and when we left on Tuesday with stuff yet to do, we knew there’d be a great deal to do when we returned the following day. While I was manning the table and talking to prospective interns/volunteers, Antoinette, Teresa, Cindy and James were working hard to have the room in ship-shape order when people began coming to get clothes so they’d be prepared for job interviews and such. Thank you LORD for blessing us so greatly!
To let you know how much things were changed from one degree of space to the other, this is what it looked like BEFORE we moved. The room was adequate but definitely not spacious…
… and this is what it looks like as we were working on it for this new event:
We have more room; more clothes and so many people have been outfitted for employment! We’re grateful to God and Goodwill as well as everyone who’s donated clothes, shoes, children’s clothes, and even winter stuff like boots, coats, etc! Man, you all rock!!
For any and all, in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, who would like to help those less fortunate than themselves, please feel free to contact us. We’re always looking to partner up to help as many as we can!
I have several videos on YouTube that correlate to the ministry I am privileged to serve at. I figured, rather than have people running after ME, why not bring it to a central location? That having been said, I will be adding to this post as I create more videos…enjoy! I LOVE working here!

As you know, we held the first of four fundraisers on Friday, May 10th. We appreciate, and thank everyone who came to visit us and talk with us. We especially appreciate those who stood out in the rain on Friday to ask others to help us. Saturday was a much better day, brighter and warmer. Thank you Lord!
For those who have been following me (and I love and thank every single one of you!), you can see that the children are an addition. The Lord has sent us the most amazing woman I’ve ever met! She is the mother of (some of) the children featured: Annessa, Britnee and Connor. Jennifer is one of our new IT people. She breezed in following the interview and proceeded to hook us up, installed programs we needed, figured out problems we were having. Amazing! Most important, she loves the Lord, too! Always helpful when joining a Christian ministry. As for Judy, also a new face, she came in to get food and volunteered to stand at the fundraiser and we thank her from the bottom of our hearts!!
It’s now May 20th, and the fundraisers of the past two weekends have come and gone. I want to give a special shout- out to Jennifer Pennington and her children Annessa, Britnee, Connor and Kaitlyn as well as her cousin Dave and his children Kristin, Victoria and Austen. In addition to all these, I want to thank Irene, Teena, Melody, Debra, and, of course, our regulars, Cindy and James Vanlandingham.
Enjoy the pictures taken by Jenny!!
This morning, we’re conducting the first of 4 fundraisers. We’ll be at Walmart, located at 3201 E Platte Ave, Colorado Springs, CO. We’ll be there 9-5 today, then tomorrow, also 9-5. Praise the Lord for the sun being out today because yesterday, we were a bit worried, thankfully without cause!
Next week, we’ll be meeting at the Palmer Park Walmart located near Powers. The hours for this operation will also be 9-5 as we try to maintain the same hours each time.
So come and see us if you’re in the neighborhood! Pick up a flyer for our food giveaway, scheduled for May 30th from 2-3 pm at 2210 La Salle St. Suite 211 in Colorado Springs!!
Good morning. This morning, I would like to share a bit more of an aspect of our donor-appreciation.
Earlier on in this site, I introduced one of our volunteers, Sonya, who creates the bead bracelets that have been shown. I would like to share some more of those beads because a lot of work goes into creating them for our donors who give $20 or more. Every one is appreciated, no matter the amount, but for those who give larger amounts, the bracelets are a visual thank you. Everyone has a fundamental need to be recognized and appreciated. This is our way of doing that.
May God bless you. We live in a world full of pain and financial need, no question, and often the decision to give or not give comes down to simple questions, “Can I trust this person or organization? Are they going to use the money to do what they said or start driving around in Bentley‘s while putting money in their own pockets?” Those are great questions and I would LOVE for you to come by, if you are in the neighborhood, and visit me.
Personally, just so you know, I take 3 buses to get here to the office every day. By car, it’d be a 20 minute trip; by bus, it’s an hour to be at the office on time. I’m a very real person, I assure you. The staff here loves the Lord ( I would not be here if I sensed ANYTHING off about this organization). None of us are paid- we are VOLUNTEERS-but we’d love to be able to change that at some point in time and at least make enough to provide for our families. Speaking for myself, let me tell you this: I have known homelessness on a very personal basis. I’ve been a single parent who needed a start-up kit for baby. I’ve been in shelters, dependent on others for my food. I’ve slept on concrete (in California, so no danger of freezing, but nonetheless uncomfortable). I’ve spent my time in a food line waiting for food. I know what it is to suffer lack- to watch my child not have a place to lay his head down other than where ever we could find, so I know this side of the issue. I wasn’t always this way-I grew up middle class, in private (Christian) schools, always had a ride to whereever I needed to get. I never knew poverty as a child (post-adoption) so facing it for the first time was a shock to the system.
I apologize for going off-kilter a bit, but I always write as led by the Spirit and He is the one I seek to please. People should always go according to conscience- no matter what. Following the Spirit is the only way to walk straight in this world of twists and turns and truths and half-truths. Go as led- here to this organization or to your place of worship, whereever that is. So long as you GIVE, it doesn’t matter (in the long run) who you give to. We need help; no question, but I’m a messenger and that’s all. I’m not a “salesman” of any repute-couldn’t sell a wool coat to an Eskimo in Antarctica but then again, I don’t have to. God will see to our needs; maybe he’ll use you- maybe he’ll go another venue. There’s no question of whether or not He’ll help- He promised and He’s not a man, that he should lie.
