Life is a ZOO right now

Good morning. Today is the busiest day! It’s positively a zoo! wink face

Today is the food giveaway September Giveaway  here in Colorado Springs, CO and we are excited! People are starting to call – not as many as last time but we’ll see what happens. Praying the Lord will multiply the food we have and that  people will be fed! In addition to the preparation of the food giveaway, we are packing up the last of the offices to move to the new site! Changes are not easy – but they ARE necessary!! The new site (as I already introduced it in an earlier post) is lovely and I can’t WAIT to get there! I’ve been working with Apostle Iva to establish the Internet so there’s no hesitation in work between now and then.

We are so thankful to God for this change of location. We pray that people all around the world, as well as in this, the United States of America, will pray for us, support us both financially and spiritually as the family of God needs to stand together and fill the niche that they’ve been led into. There are days when I wonder why I bother to write these – worry that people aren’t really paying it attention beyond liking it but I can’t allow myself to think that way. This is what God has established for me to do and I’m pretty decent at writing, so I continue to be obedient and trust that eventually, I will be able to establish conversation with people – to be able to help as many people as is possible.

DSCN1972 DSCN1959 DSCN1969 DSCN1970 DSCN1971

May God bless you and give you all that you stand in need of. We are struggling; no denying it or changing it until it changes through God’s power. We need this grant we’re working on- we’re not going to be able to do much until that happens. I have been working here for 7 months as a volunteer. We are ALL volunteers here and we need to move forward. We need prayer, ya’ll!

Should the Lord put it on your heart to give to this ministry, you can always visit and contribute to Pay Pal or if you prefer to mail a check, it should go to OVERCOMERS INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY at 607 Bryce Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80910 (the church). Pray for us – that’s my strongest plea.

A.R.I.S.E. Has Happened Again!!

Once more, our partners at Goodwill Industries  have blessed us with the opportunity to progress in our desire to help the community. ARISE FLYER

Twice a month, they hold these A.R.I.S.E. events where local businesses come to Goodwill Industries on Colorado Avenue here in Colorado Springs and make themselves available for those who need help. The most recent one was held two weeks ago on September 4th and it was so much fun! I actually filled in for Christine DSCN0783, who normally attends these functions, representing OIM but, blessedly, she is back in the seat and I’m doing what I do best – let all of you know what’s going on! As usual, she has outdone herself and here are a few pictures of the beautiful table she put up.

Christine is our new Office Manager. She and I traded places in our positions, so now I can operate as the Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator of this nonprofit organization, as well as function as HER assistant which totally works for me and makes me very happy! She’s been here just about a month less than me but I’ve been watching her, as had been the people that I answer to. We all came to the same conclusion- Christine is made for management. She’s fair and just and able to say what needs to be said; do what needs to be done and although I can function in the role (and have since I arrived 6 months ago), it is not a role I enjoy, nor do I seek to continue in if another is more qualified than I am – and Christine is. No question about it 😀

One of the wonderful things that Goodwill Industries did to assist us (and I likely mentioned this before) was arrange for us to keep our clothes in one of their offices. They went a step further and moved us into a much bigger space.  Christine, Antoinette, Teresa, Chelsea, Stacy, Cindy and James and myself spent all day at Goodwill Industries the day before the A.R.I.S.E. event getting the room ready. We worked very hard and when we left on Tuesday with stuff yet to do, we knew there’d be a great deal to do when we returned the following day. While I was manning the table and talking to prospective interns/volunteers, Antoinette, Teresa, Cindy and James were working hard to have the room in ship-shape order when people began coming to get clothes so they’d be prepared for job interviews and such. Thank you LORD for blessing us so greatly!

To let you know how much things were changed from one degree of space to the other, this is what it looked like BEFORE we moved. The room was adequate but definitely not spacious…

… and this is what it looks like as we were working on it for this new event:

imagejpeg_2 (5) imagejpeg_2 (17) imagejpeg_2 (18) imagejpeg_2 (22)imagejpeg_2 (23) imagejpeg_3 (1) imagejpeg_3 (11) imagejpeg_4 (9) imagejpeg_4 (10) imagejpeg_4 New Clothes Closet

We have more room; more clothes and so many people have been outfitted for employment! We’re grateful to God and Goodwill as well as everyone who’s donated clothes, shoes, children’s clothes, and even winter stuff like boots, coats, etc! Man, you all rock!!

For any and all, in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, who would like to help those less fortunate than themselves, please feel free to contact us. We’re always looking to partner up to help as many as we can!

Who’s your Neighbor?

The New Testament instructs us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself” but who IS your neighbor? Is it the circle you call friends? Is it people of the same economic group as you belong to? Or, could it be that it’s the homeless guy you passed this morning on your way to church, or to the movies or to…wherever else you had to go? For me, it’s anyone who passes by, regardless of how they’re dressed, how they’re acting or speaking or what they’re doing. Maybe they’re not the BEST neighbor we’ve ever had, but that doesn’t change the fact that they ARE our neighbor.

Let me tell you about MY neighbors. They are poor. They are homeless. They have nowhere to go at night. They want jobs but none seem to exist and if they DO, they go to everyone BUT those seeking them, They have either a past – or a present – problem with drugs, alcohol, etc. They may not have worked for years. They’re trying to climb a hill and a mudslide of political and peer pressure, discrimination and generalized animosity is coming right at them and they’re expected to climb and not drown; to withstand the  pressure put on them, raise a family, etc., with pretty much NO support from those who are called to do so.

I was just sitting here, listening to Ray Boltz singing “What if I Gave All” and as always, this songs brings tears to my eyes and a sob to my heart.

Please take a couple minutes and really listen to this song…It’s been the cry of my heart, as moderator of this page to be able to help those who are in need. It’s so discomforting for me to realize how big and pure my heart is, in spite of my humanity and fight against sin, and just as great a need as the kids portrayed on this video. And the killing part? I’m not trying to reach Africa– I’d settle for my backyard- Colorado Springs, Colorado – and the  people who come here to OIM to be blessed with food and clothes and whatever else we can give them.

imagejpeg_8 (2) needs to look like this: DSCN1796

imagejpeg_3 (3) needs to look like this: DSCN1787

The truth is that I’m tired. I’m tired of watching my pastor  hold her head up and practice her faith and know that she must, when no one is looking, cry out to God and ask him why people will spend hundreds of dollars for Denver Bronco‘s tickets but when it comes to money in the offering plate, there’s not enough to pay a tiny staff to work. I’m one of those prospective employees and I can’t even cover my rent since the government cracked down on TANF and food stamps so I do my best to hold my head up and do the best I can and wonder if I won’t be forced to take my family back to the shelter where we will once more be separated. My boss keeps telling me to trust God and believe and I know in my heart and spirit she’s right but if people don’t step forward to help, we’re screwed- and it’s not right. It’s not right that some people have more than they’ll ever need and others don’t have anything. Psalms 73 speaks of this so clearly but still I am human and love my family above all and lived through the damage it did to my son being separated from his father for 6 months. He’s only 4 years old and we desperately need help; both me and my family and this organization I’ve served faithfully the past 6 months.

I’m discouraged and tired of running my mouth about this. I’m tired of using increasingly obvious guilt tactics but what else can I do? I can’t force people who claim to be Christians to come forward. I can’t force people to read or buy my book.VFWTS I live in a constant state of fear, whether I like it or not. broken heart

See, this isn’t a popularity contest. If it were, I’d lose by default, primarily because so few know I’m even alive, despite  my many social outlets. It’s not a lack of trying: it’s a lack of RESULTS

Lord, please open the door.  Let me know that there are still a FEW who don’t “bow the knee to Ba’al“. The lines of demarcation are no longer clear as they used to be…I pray that we find a way to find each other and join forces to make a difference.  You are my neighbor and I am yours. ❤

Good morning,  I hope you are all well!happy face

Tomorrow and Saturday, August 16 and 17,  a fundraiser will be held at Palmer Park Walmart from 9 am-5 pm. Palmer Park WalmartWe need to collect donations so that we can hold our next food give-a-way, the last one occurred on May 30th. DSCN0774 To do that, we rely on donations from good hearted people like yourselves.  Now, a salesman, I am not. I’m an eternal optimist and I  trust that people will  give us  the funds we need to collect but I also know that we’re in a bad economy (not as bad as it WAS, but still bad) and some, if not most, people are just trying to feed their families. HOWEVER, there ARE people who can help and do not. Like any state, there are super poor people- and super RICH people. It’s hard for people with money to let money out of their hands because they come to trust the “security” in having wealth AND riches (not necessarily the same thing). Those are the people I am asking to step forward to help. They can afford it; they need to help. If I can work for free (except for TANF and Food Stamps), than they can step forward to help those who are down and out. And there are a LOT of homeless people in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and the surrounding areas. We help them ALL- we do not just focus our attention on one place. Colorado Springs has a lot of food pantries – the surrounding areas, including Manitou Springs, do not and we want to be available to help and assist all who need. The community that is Colorado Springs, can help, and we pray they will. ***Also remember that everything helps us- 1 Cent is as valuable as 1 Dollar; and that is NOT cliche!***

**** REMEMBER THIS: WE ALWAYS ARE OPEN TO IN-KIND DONATIONS AND WE ESPECIALLY NEED MEAT…CHICKEN BEING THE MOST IMPORTANT, as well as hot dogs and other meats and vegetables that can be used quickly. You will be given or sent a letter from us authenticating that you gave as you can claim it on your taxes as a write off, up to $500 as well as a bracelet, hand-made at OIM. bracelets ****

If you need more reasons to give, consider this: this has been a year from hell, weather wise. Despite the claims of drought, we’ve been plagued by torrential rain, flash floods, people losing their homes, etc. Please consider giving to us so that we can give to THEM; to those who’ve lost everything, in some cases, including loved ones. And also, while you’re considering  that, remember THIS- those that you hear about are only some of the people affected by this weather. Those who are not mentioned…the HOMELESS- where do THEY go when the rain is dumping inches of water in minutes? Does anyone even think to spare them thought? Having  been there myself, I most certainly do. Yes, I’ve been blessed with a place to live, a roof over my (and my family’s) head but I’ve only been there for 6 months- previous to that I was at the shelter and prior to THAT I was in another state (Iowa) because the FORMER state I’d been in (California) didn’t have jobs available for me. Like I said, I’ve been in and out of homeless a LONG, LONG time. Now, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to help those that I understand, a position I’ve dreamt about for many years, but until now have not been able to do.

Volunteers Literally Keep Us Afloat!

Hello! It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this page, so I wanted to do that, AND introduce Steven to you all! Steven Brooks has been with us for some time. He works at the office once a week and at the church every Sunday, operating the sound equipment during the praise and worship segment of church.

imagejpeg_2  ***************************************************************************************************************************

Good morning! Next week, April 12, we hold our next fundraiser. We will be in front of Walmart on Platte Street here in Colorado Springs, CO. If you’re in the neighborhood, please do come and visit. We’d love to meet you and see if there’s anything we can do for you.

I have just become aware of another situation that needs immediate attention! We have a mother, 8 months pregnant, who is desperately in need of baby clothes for newborns as well as diapers. Anyone out there who’s had children and especially those who have struggled with ever increasing prices in baby attire and supplies knows how hard it is for a single mom to acquire everything needed for baby.

Those who wish to donate, you are welcome to stop by next Friday, April 12th for the fundraiser and to drop off baby clothes and/or diapers or, if you wish, you can come by the office and give directly to us here at 2210 La Salle #205 here in Colorado Springs.

You are so much appreciated, all who read this; all who give to those less fortunate- you are giving to Jesus and there’s no greater gift you can give!!

We, at Overcomers International, would like to welcome Lisa Alexander and Christine Daniels to our family of volunteers. Most everyone comes to us, as has been explained, via Viewpoints/Directions or Employment First, both provided at Goodwill Logo and these two ladies are no exception. We’re thankful to God for providing them because they’re wonderful ladies and they know the computer! In the time I’ve been here at final-logo-21.jpg, we’ve had so many people come that are willing to do whatever we need them to do…but do not have the necessary skills when it comes to utilizing the computer which is what we really need the most. It’s admittedly hard for someone like me, who’s been using the computer forever, to understand when others do not have the same knowledge- it’s kind of like trying to understand cancer or any disease when you yourself do not have that disease, nor have you ever KNOWN anyone with it. Unless you’ve been in their shoes, you can’t possibly understand.

So, without further ado, and before I get into another three-part-sermon happy,smile,smiley,funny,fun,emotion,emoticon,face, let me introduce these ladies to you.

First, there’s Christine Daniels. Christine just began this last week. She’s hardworking, willing and doesn’t have to be told what to do every three seconds. This morning, when she finished the assignment I gave her, she fixed the desk she was sitting at without even having to be told.

  imagejpeg_5 (5)

Next, there’s Lisa Alexander. Her first day was today, following our Interview and  she’s funny, hardworking and dedicated. She’s cracked me up so many times today I’ve lost count. Love a woman with spirit! Anyway, I gave her a project and she completed it so fast I didn’t even know she was done. It’s wonderful to have these ladies in our group…I pray that God will continue to bless them, us (both personally and professionally) as well as this ministry!

  imagejpeg_4 (7)

**In an effort to remain as current as possible, let me say that Lisa has now moved on, having found employment, which is WONDERFUL as that’s why people come here from Employment First and Viewpoints/Directions. We miss her dreadfully, but we’re equally overjoyed that she has gained a wonderful new opportunity to shine!!

As mentioned in the last blog, our welcome to you, Overcomers International Ministry is comprised of volunteers. In due time, we pray to secure grants that will enable Apostle Iva Bowers to hire staff but for the moment, it’s all done by people who love the Lord, believe in the ministry and have a heart for those who downtrodden, both spiritually and economically.

In light of this, introduction of three of these volunteers is in order. First, there’s Gigi. Gigi has been with this organization three months. She works on the spreadsheets needed for multiple factions involved with OIM as no business can run itself. God has blessed us with her, her cheerful demeanor is uplifting for all.

**In an effort to remain as current as possible, let me say that Gigi has now moved on, having suffered some serious health issues, including pneumonia. We pray for her health and for her and pray that God will allow her to come back, should it be his Will, to come help us and bring us her spirit once more.

Then there’s Sonya. Sonya is extremely valuable to this ministry as she speaks Spanish fluently and therefore can minister to our Spanish-speaking clients and friends. She also does the creating of the beads, a tool we use to bless those who donate $20 or more. Thanks be to God for this wonderful woman of God. She is wonderfully proficient at fundraisers as well!

** In an effort to remain as current as possible, let me say that Sonya has now moved on, having found more opportunities for employment in Chicago, following a trip to Mexico. We pray for success for her in the Windy City!

Next, there’s Heidi. Heidi has been here exactly one week ago. Her part is to  be of as much use in the office as she can be. She created this blog, is working on getting all the information needed for this ministry to get involved in either an Organic Buyers Club or a Co-op,  so as to be as faithful with the food and stretch it as far as it can be and to see what kind of grants can be found and utilized so that Apostle Iva can hire the staff she wants to.

Heidi 2

Cindy and James are a husband, wife team who have been here at final-logo-22.jpg as volunteers since  August of 2012. They are in charge of the food pantry, making sure that the hungry are fed, the needy clothed. They attend the fundraisers and give of themselves unselfishly. Thank you, Lord, for this dedicated couple!!

Cindy and James 3

It’s an honor and a privilege to work for the Lord and to have work to do. Trusting in the Lord is an exercise of faith and we’re thankful to have Him always at our back. There are far more volunteers than the three mentioned; eventually, as many as can be will be mentioned-and introduced.

May God bless this ministry, the volunteers, those who lift us up in prayer and remember that families and children are involved, even if indirectly.

Thank you, Lord, for your unspeakable gifts!!

In keeping with the promise to keep on introducing volunteers, let me introduce to you, Heather, working for Overcomers International Ministry, all the way from Alabama! We simply could not do without her!!

Heather Moultrie is the current and longest standing treasure of the Overcomers International Ministry. She has attained a certificate in business management allowing her to excel among her peers in the company. Heather also maintains the title of executive director, overseeing all capital raising activities in addition to the oversight of volunteers looking to add experience through the ministry.

Teena McDonalds started working with us today. She’s a lovely person whom I had the privilege of interviewing and “hiring” as a volunteer.

Teena 2

As with any job, one must find out where their talents lay and apparently creating bracelets is it-she’s only just started and already has created wonderful pieces for those who give $20 or more (as described in another blog).

Thank you, Teena!! You’re invaluable to us and I, for one, can’t wait to see the doors the Lord opens in the furthering of both your career and your personal growth!!

I wanted to remind everyone that final-logo-22.jpgwill be holding its next fundraiser on May 10 and 11 at the Walmart on Platte Street. Anyone in the Colorado Springs area is invited to attend and come by and see us. The following week, May 17 and 18, a fundraiser will be held at the Walmart at Palmer Park.

For those who donated $20 or more, we have these wonderful bracelets to hand out as a Thank you!

 imagejpeg_2 (16)  Sonya2

We hope to see you at the fundraiser(s) and as always, we thank those who go out and do this-without your initiative and courage (rejection in ANY form is hard to take and not everyone will/can give), we wouldn’t be able to stock the pantry and provide clothes, diapers and items for our Honey Baby Project!

imagejpeg_2 (5)  Cindy and James 3

Sonya  imagejpeg_8 (2)

We would like to thank all who contributed to our food bank on April 12, 2013!  The bracelets were most popular and we were blessed beyond belief!

imagejpeg_9 (3)  Sonya2

We would love to thank Sonya, Irene, Teena, Melody, Cindy and James for spending all day in front of Walmart. Couldn’t do it without you; we seriously couldn’t!! And we give a big SHOUT OUT to Apostle Iva Bowers who coordinates the whole thing…AND has other projects going on at the SAME TIME! You’re an inspiration to us all!!

We are so blessed to have such willing volunteers brave the cold (and it WAS chilly!). You’re sacrifice will feed many so God bless you!!

To You, O Lord, goes all the glory and honor and praise. Without you, we wouldn’t have this love in our hearts for those down and out; we definitely wouldn’t be doing it for “free” (volunteers), at least would not have the same spirit that we do it because you ARE so precious to us. We know that it is by the Blood of our Savior and Brother that we can reach out to you and it’s by our comforting Holy Spirit that we can boldly come and ask you to bless the works of our hands and make us effective- and it’s because of the sacrifice of others (those who gave- that would be YOU!!) that we can move forward; feed hungry people; clothe newborns and prepare them for life in at least ONE area; so thank you, Lord. We’re your servants!

Good morning. This morning, I would like to share a bit more of an aspect of our donor-appreciation.

imagejpeg_7 (1)

imagejpeg_2 (1)

imagejpeg_9 (1)

Earlier on in this site, I introduced one of our volunteers, Sonya, who creates the bead bracelets that have been shown. I would like to share some more of those beads because a lot of work goes into creating them for our donors who give $20 or more. Every one is appreciated, no matter the amount, but for those who give larger amounts, the bracelets are a visual thank you. Everyone has a fundamental need to be recognized and appreciated. This is our way of doing that.

May God bless you. We live in a world full of pain and financial need, no question, and often the decision to give or not give comes down to simple questions, “Can I trust this person or organization? Are they going to use the money to do what they said or start driving around in  Bentley‘s while putting money in their own pockets?” Those are great questions and I would LOVE for you to come by, if you are in the neighborhood, and visit me.

Personally, just so you know, I take 3 buses to get here to the office every day. By car, it’d be a 20 minute trip; by bus, it’s an hour to be at the office on time. I’m a very real person, I assure you. The staff here loves the Lord ( I would not be here if I sensed ANYTHING off about this organization). None of us are paid- we are VOLUNTEERS-but we’d love to be able to change that at some point in time and at least make enough to provide for our families. Speaking for myself, let me tell you this: I have known homelessness on a very personal basis. I’ve been a single parent who needed a start-up kit for baby. I’ve been in shelters, dependent on others for my food. I’ve slept on concrete (in California, so no danger of freezing, but nonetheless uncomfortable). I’ve spent my time in a food line waiting for food.  I know what it is to suffer lack- to watch my child not have a place to lay his head down other than where ever we could find, so I know this side of the issue. I wasn’t always this way-I grew up middle class, in private (Christian) schools,  always had a ride to whereever I needed to get. I never knew poverty as a child (post-adoption) so facing it for the first time was a shock to the system.

I apologize for going off-kilter a bit, but I always write as led by the Spirit and He is the one I seek to please. People should always go according to conscience- no matter what. Following the Spirit is the only way to walk straight in this world of twists and turns and truths and  half-truths. Go as led- here to this organization or to your place of worship, where ever that is. So long as you GIVE, it doesn’t matter (in the long run) who you give to. We need help; no question, but I’m a messenger and that’s all. I’m not a “salesman” of any repute-couldn’t sell a wool coat to an Eskimo in Antarctica but then again, I don’t have to. God will see to our needs; maybe he’ll use you- maybe he’ll go another venue. There’s no question of whether or not He’ll help- He promised and He’s not a man, that he should lie.

This is Heidi Heidi, creator of this blog and I’d like to talk to you. smiley icon

I don’t know if you’ve ever had to fundraise for any reason. It’s a terrifying-and distasteful-act for me. Maybe it’s my years of homelessness and having watched so many “fellow homeless” people do it, from California to Iowa to Colorado. Maybe it’s just my personal belief that THE CHURCH should be helping THE CHURCH. Whatever it is, it’s caused me to do what one should always do when one is faced with a dilemma-I prayed and was given scripture verses via Heather Moultrie Heather,  supporting the act of giving/receiving (of money).  Thanks, Heather! You rock!

Having said that, let me stress that I believe that it’s the Church’s responsibility to feed the poor and needy- that’s part of the Great Commission, and it would likely be done were it not for denominational infighting. While energy, time and attention (not to mention money) is diverted to territorial infighting (instead of working together as the Body of Christ), the government has been forced, for lack of a better term, to do the Church’s job for it.

Let me ALSO stress this: the fundraising that we do is not a bunch of people standing on the street begging for money. We INVITE people to sew into the Kingdom; if they want to give, great; if not, that’s fine as well. Many, maybe even MOST who give do not even know what they’re actually doing- but those of us who’ll be helping people to feed their families DO know what they’re doing, even if not in full measure. What this basically means is that for those who give, it’s a SYMBIOTIC relationship-both parties benefit which makes it a temporary-but mutually beneficial-partnership.

Naturally, no one is perfect and so we’re all subject to failure. Thus the state that the world and the Church is in today. Fortunately, we have Scripture to fall back on and that’s what leads me to this blog today. No matter what the cause, the need for funds to run a business and a food pantry remains. God fearing, loving people run this organization (and I’m hard to please and not too easily impressed, nevertheless have been), and I am blessed to have been given a part in it.

I come at this on a very personal level. See, even though I now live in an apartment (my first in over 10 years and my husband’s and mine after 8 years of marriage, our child is 4 years old and is his first real home), we still struggle financially and Overcomers International Ministry has blessed us over and over- with a job, even if volunteer for now-and with food, the money from which came at our last fundraiser. So, yes, my life has been touched by OIMCO and I’m thankful to God – and to OIMCO- for the love that’s been shown to my family and myself.

Food Give-A-Way Results

As many of you know, last week Thursday, May 30th, we had a food give-a-way. In a word, the results were…AWESOME!! We give thanks to God for the supply we were able to gather and store for this event, thanks to the contributions by Colorado Springs residents who gave above and beyond what we could have asked or thought.  A shout-out to my Father, who multiplied our food and allowed for us to feed 226 people, that’s 56 families, ya’ll. The largest was a family of 9, I believe.

For me personally, this is huge…not only did I get to be part of “the other side”, I got to help plan it, enact it, and I give all the credit to my Father, to Iva DSCN1798 who did such a wonderful job directing traffic in the food pantry and getting the food out expeditiously. To Christine DSCN0753 who amazed me with her ability to multi-task, getting our guests to sign the sheet, fill out the application paperwork and get them in and out so that others could come. The line formed down the hall and out the door into the very windy air. I also want to thank Jenny DSCN0563, who along with me, took pictures of the events as they unfurled and I beg anyone who sees their face on this site to remember that this is a nonprofit. We’re still  learning and in transition. We will have a few changes for the next food give-a-way which we hope to accomplish every 3 months or so as food allows. Last but definitely not least, I want to thank our resident artist, Debra DSCN0780 who spent the morning painting and the afternoon serving. Thank you, ALL, for your versatility, your passion towards helping those less fortunate. I am proud to know you all and I know our Father is as well!

We Gather Together…

Last weekend, May 12th, on Mother’s Day, Apostle Iva Bowers held a BBQ at her home, at the Church, following the service. Her husband did all the work and we had a great time.

Speaking for myself, it has been years since I’ve (regularly) attended church which is not to say that I have somehow back-slidden, but rather was homeless and moving around a lot; now, sometimes, I sit back and wonder how I ended up attending hers. Yes, I work here, in the office, but I’d pretty much given up going to church again and yet God seems to be leading me back there. Whatever his purpose, I’ll do my best to be obedient.

This BBQ was a blast. I’m new to Colorado Springs and my husband and I don’t get out very much. He had to stay home with Ishaq, our son, so I kind of live life for the both of us.

The Lord has been so faithful to me! As I sit here going over the pictures of the events of recent days, I can only stand amazed that the Lord has entrusted me with the responsibilities he has.  I also worry – daily – despite my best efforts because this ministry needs to be able to get the grant so that we can hire a staff. I have a husband and child at home and he’s only in preschool, which means we can not both work full time job- that responsibility falls to me (and I’m delighted to have it that way as he prefers to be at home with his plants anyway). We need partners. We need people who are as concerned about the homeless, underemployed and chronically in need in the Colorado Springs area (the WHOLE area, not JUST Colorado Springs) as we are.

Anyway, just wanted to share the pictures taken on Mother’s Day!
